My EDGE project consists of writing 24 lesson plans that focus on grades K-3. In each grade level I wrote 6 lesson plans with one subject for each lesson. The main subjects that I focused on were Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, and P.E. The Fine Arts consists of Music, Dance, Theatre, and the Visual Arts. Most of the lesson plans have the main subject and then I integrated other subjects to make the lesson plans more engaging.

The lesson plans are written in ICAP (Integrated Core Applied Project) format, provided by Southern Utah University’s Education Department. ICAP lesson plan layouts provide space for specific scripted teaching. It provides a layout of the teacher addressing the students, the teacher and students work together, and then the students work independently. I organized the lesson plans on my website by Grade Level and then by subject. There are downloadable links for each lesson plan.

The inspiration for my project came from my desire to connect my EDGE project to my career. I wanted to be able to do a project that I could take directly to the classroom. I knew that teaching lessons is something that I will do until I retire. I also know that once I am an actual teacher I will not have much time to sit down and write a detailed lesson plan. I wanted to have some that are already detailed to use for the future.

One of the biggest challenges that I had with this project is time management. I originally had a detailed schedule of what weeks would be designated to what lessons. I struggled to find the energy to sit down and space them out. Based on the description above, you can figure that I ended up doing a lot more of them at the end. Another challenge that I encountered was financially. I had planned to collect supplies for my lessons, but after configuring numbers, I figured out that it just was not reasonable for a college student budget.

This EDGE project can benefit others because they can see the work that goes into teaching. Teaching is something that takes time and dedication. I can share these lesson plan ideas with others in my profession, and this helps the community in a school grow. The biggest impact this EDGE project has is on students. The more detailed the lesson the more prepared the teacher is to teach. The multiple subjects integrated together helps make the students more involved in their learning.

This project was more of a project to benefit my future classroom. The biggest way that it has affected me is I have increased my knowledge of state standards. For grade levels K-2, I have a basic understanding of what specific content fits in with what grade level. For example: If I have someone that wants to know where place values is taught, I would be able to say that in Utah they teach place value in second Grade. I am also more organized because I have split my teaching into specific parts.
